And I find the colors do help a lot when using it as a MIDI controller.not true? The build and all the materials they used for the MKII feels much more solid and the pads are even more sensitive and feels super smooth compared to MKI pads which are stickier. I upgraded from MKI to MKII and the difference in build quality is night and day, even though there's no problem with MKI's hardware functionally. This template was updated by NI with Maschine 2.1 and works great with Live 9.1.ĭisagree. CONTROLLER EDITOR MASCHINE MK1 UPDATEWhat had happened is that at one point when Ableton update Live to 9.1, they broke compatibility with Maschine's Live template. Maschine's MIDI mode template for Ableton Live works just fine with Maschine 2.x. When one sampler really, really handles both in an elegant and complete manner, they will likely own the market. I dont' get why in 2014 there is still a vague "MPC vs. Somebody is gonna come along and make an integrated product that is fast, easy to load and build kits in, allows round robin & velocity layers, and still has that "MPC" workflow Nerve w/Padkontrol has no Velocity Layers Maschine has the x0x step sequencing on a 2nd page CONTROLLER EDITOR MASCHINE MK1 SOFTWAREIt's clunky software and difficult to preview hits while playing Spark is slow to load and build kits with. Right now, it seems to be a "Pick two" kind of situation Can cycle through samples to build perfect kits quickly. Have x0x sequencing easily available on the controllerģ. It's amazing to me that there's STILL a gap with soft drum machines & hardware interfaces that:Ģ. If there was a way to run Maschine software with the x0x step sequencer on the Spark controller, or even the beatstep, that would be teh awesome looked around the NI site and couldn't find anything, but maybe didn't look hard enough.Funny, I was wondering the opposite a few days ago Now has anyone made a Maschine template for the Spark software? That could be useful, not sure how hard it would be…. Now instead of moving up a whole octave it moves up one row of pads.Īnd I'm finding all kinds of little improvements with Maschine's 2.1 update that were not even mentioned, like the prehear level now being remembered. Even with Drum Rack there's more LED feedback so the pads with samples/instruments loaded light up. The navigation in session view is improved, and some functions that were previously exclusive to Push are now available from Maschine as well, such as changing a Live clip's start/end/loop directly via the encoders. In fact, Maschine 2.1's Live 9 templates are much improved, especially visual feedback where on some of the pages (display/knobs), you now get parameter name and value feedback from Live. This template was updated by NI with Maschine 2.1 and works great with Live 9.1. I havent used maschine since v2 due to waiting for the batch midi to be fixed (it has now) but I dont think the midi mode template has been fixed yetNot true. If you plan on using maschine with ableton dont update it.the 1.8 software fitted ableton like a glove.the templates made it a great midi controller. The colours are a nice organizational aid. The mk2 hardware feels more robust and the buttons have a nice tactile feel. I find if you use experimental techniques such as hardware or software modular synthesis being able to quickly sample makes work flow with strange sound generators much more productive.Ģ) the softer larger drum pads are more sensitive than Push which I prefer for gentle percussion playing such as ride cymbols. Now that I am used to being able to sample and edit so fast I wish I had bought an MPC back in the 90s when I first started making electronic music. This is what I missed most about having only the Push. Quick sampling and sample editing can all be done from the controller. It runs within Ableton Live and gets its audio from an Aux or external input. What I use Mashine for is two things.ġ) Sampling! I treat Maschine mk2 as a one shot and percussion sampler. I had previously had a mk1 which I sold when Ableton Push was announced.
